cuz you can play pool on it
Its called a "pool table" Because its a pool of balls
Billiards and pool is different. Billiards are the tables where the balls go in the hole and go into a slot where they clash. Pool is where the balls go in the hole and stay in the hole

Sorry i am not to specific
I guess because the middle of the billiard table looks like a pool on the top flat surface. I've always wondered this too and I can't seem to understand how a billiards table is called a pool table.
In the United States both 8-Ball and 9-Ball are now also known as Pool. The original game of Pool (or Straight Pool) involved just potting balls in any order; usually up to a total of 50 or 100. When only one ball was left on the table besides the cue ball; another set of 15 was racked
The technical name for the game Americans call pool is pocket billiards. Billiards covers a wide range of games, including snooker and 3 cushion billiards.

When pocket billiards was first brought to America, the first tables were put in horse race betting parlors known as "pool halls" with pool meaning a pool of money. Over time pocket billiard tables became known as pool tables because they were primarily featured in "pool" parlors. This is also where the game first gained a reputation as being associated with gambling, which lives on to this day.
In order to make the distinction between "pocket billiards" and "cushion billiards" the term pool table is used. Playing pool usually means playing "pocket billiards".
